Begin your Italian learning journey on this short course for complete beginners. Taught in Italian, the emphasis is on speaking and listening You'll learn how to meet and greet people, talk about yourself, and begin to learn some key vocabulary to help you communicate in Italian.

- ask about meaning of words

- give and ask for basic information about yourself and others

- numbers

- saying what job you do.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge required, suitable for complete beginners.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Silvana Vistola

Silvana Vistola is a qualified teacher who holds a QTS certificate. She has worked, as a lecturer in Italian, for two major Sixth Form Colleges in London, is friendly and patient and is currently teaching at Westminster University. Silvana has experience in teaching adults at different language levels, from beginners to advanced level courses and literature. She is familiar with classroom management, dealing with mixed ability groups, using the latest teaching materials, setting targets and achieving goals. Silvana is passionate about languages, creative writing, and literature, has worked as a translator and holds an MA in media studies; for this reason, digital tools (such as: videos, online newspapers, social media) are an integral part of her teaching. Silvana’s main priority is to create a friendly and relaxed environment in which students can learn, have fun, and make friends. She believes in fostering a cooperative environment in which learning becomes more enjoyable and more effective.
