What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- order food and drink in a restaurant - talk about your likes and dislikes - express agreement - say what time it is.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Italian beginners: module 2. This is the second term of first-year Italian, though it moves at a slower pace than our standard course, so please email us (Italian@citylit.ac.uk) if you have any questions.
For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide or at http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
We also offer language support sessions for beginner students giving them an opportunity to dispel doubts about the language. These are delivered entirely in English and are ideal for those aspects of the language or language learning that beginner students tend to find challenging. Places can only be booked once you have started the course. For more information, please ask your tutor.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Nuovo Espresso 1 (libro studente, published by Alma Edizioni - libro studentte - Italian version). Please note we use Nuovo Espresso 1, not Nuovo Espresso Plus 1
Note: you might not cover all the activities in the book during the course. (This text should only be used for courses that follow a book).
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Italian beginners at a gentle pace: module 3. Please enrol as soon as possible as spaces cannot be guaranteed.
I hold an MA in Modern Greek and Italian Language and Literature from ELTE University in Budapest, where I specialized in Neo-Latin Linguistics and completed a Teacher Training Programme. I furthered my studies with a postgraduate course in Teaching Modern Greek as a Second Language at the University of Patras, Greece, supported by a Greek Government Scholarship. Additionally, I studied Neo-Latin Linguistics for a semester at Roma Tre University in Italy on a scholarship. My approach to language learning emphasizes communication and real-world application, focusing on conversation to help students confidently use the language in everyday situations. As a CELTA-certified instructor, I incorporate communicative teaching methods to create an engaging and immersive learning environment. I believe that learning a language is also an opportunity to explore its culture, history, and traditions. Through my lessons, I encourage students to embrace both the linguistic and cultural aspects of Greek and Italian, making their learning experience enriching and enjoyable.
Please note: We reserve the right to change our tutors from those advertised. This happens rarely, but if it does, we are unable to refund fees due to this. Our tutors may have different teaching styles; however we guarantee a consistent quality of teaching in all our courses.
