Continue learning to speak Italian on this intensive programme. Taught in Italian, the emphasis is on developing your speaking and listening skills. Based on Espresso 2 (Alma Edizioni).

Description

What is the course about?

This course aims to reinforce/consolidate what you have already learnt and enable you to deal with a variety of practical situations with reasonable ease and confidence.

What will we cover?

Based on chapters 1-5 from Espresso 2 (Alma Edizioni - Italian version)

Themes: family; childhood; physical description; personality; invitations; asking for information.

Grammar: the perfect with reflexive verbs; imperfect tense; difference between the perfect and the imperfect; comparison.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-talk about your family
-talk about childhood
-describe situations and habits in the past
-describe people's personality and appearance
-suggest going out
-accept or reject an offer
-ask for a favour
-ask for information.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable if you have completed Italian fast-track modules 1 and 2 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language (Nuovo Espresso 1, Units 1-10).

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.
