On this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of sentence structures and grammatical functions to understand more advanced and complex expressions. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to improve your speaking and listening skills as well as consolidate your reading and writing skills.
We will cover a wide range of everyday situations, including cultural information about Japan and focus on improving your conversational Japanese. This course is suitable for the learners who have studied for about 6 years or have completed Japanese 4 or equivalent.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Ideally you have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Exam N5, or you should have completed Japanese 4/5 module 1. Students should be able to read and write Hiragana and Katakana as well as have some knowledge of Kanji (JLPT N4 level or above).
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays, games and discussions of topics. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual materials. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Kiyomi started teaching Japanese in 2002. Since then, she has taught Japanese in the adult education sector at the various institutions and universities. She joined City Lit in 2013 and she has been teaching at all levels, from Beginners to Advanced classes. She is also working as a writer for a Japanese free paper where she writes about cultural information for Japanese people. She enjoys working both as a language teacher and a writer, as she likes to deepen her understanding of Japanese in its basic form, as well as developing her use of the language creatively. She’d like to spread her passion for the Japanese language to learners and believes that learning about a different cultural perspective is just as important and enjoyable as learning about the language itself.
