What is the course about?
This new level aims to help you make progress with your playing technique and your understanding of jazz harmony and guitar styles. You will consolidate and develop the work covered in jazz guitar 2.

What will we cover?
arpeggios, modes and scales
rhythms for 'comping'
playing a melody
walking bass strategy
guitar ensemble playing.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Improvise on standard repertoire with improved know-how and confidence
- "comp" effectively on the study tunes
- Have expanded your learned repertoire
- work towards performing and accompanying.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This level of study is ideal for players who have completed jazz guitar 2. Competence required includes knowing the note names up to the 12th fret, and the ability to play major 7th, dominant, minor 7th, diminished 7th and half-diminished chords, and fluency reading chord symbols, tab, and music notation.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Demonstration and explanation by the tutor, playing together and individually, following recorded music samples, and reading chord charts in the tutor's course book.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Bring your acoustic guitar, and build a file of course papers.
