The intermediate course is about progressing with beaded jewellery techniques. You will increase skills and make pieces of jewellery that are multi stranded using a range of wire and threads.
What will we cover?
You will look at creating necklaces, bracelets and earrings that are made of more than one strand. You will learn about how to manipulate bead wires, cotton, silk, elastic and polyester threads to further your beaded jewellery pieces.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- String beads onto multiple strands of bead stringing wire. - Make a piece of beaded jewellery using the knotting technique with emphasis on adopting Macramé knots as a decorative feature or as a fastening. - Use French Wire to start and finish a knotted or strung item. - Identify how to use different thicknesses of elastic to create cuffs. - How to manipulate and twist various thicknesses of copper wire. - Identify findings used for multi strand pieces.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is for intermediate learners who have already completed a course in beaded jewellery making.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught by demonstrations with accompanying project sheets, with 1;1 support and guidance from the tutor and by tutor and group discussion on beaded jewellery materials, tools, artists and inspiration. You will be introduced to 2-3 techniques each session.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Most tools and materials will be provided by City Lit but you may want to have your own set of craft pliers and personal beads. Your tutor can advise you on where to source these.

Beverley has an academic training in Fine Art and Textiles and for a while set up a design business in Knitted Garments. Whilst studying for an MA in Textiles, Beverley started using traditional Bead Weaving, Embroidery and Quilting techniques to create painted and stitched pieces. This led to creating accredited and personal interest short courses in Beaded Jewellery, Fashion and Textiles. Beverley continues to use constructive Textile techniques within her teaching practise. She is actively involved in her community and works closely with local charities to explore how Art and Craft increases Well Being. She is a member of Hastings Arts Forum where she curates Textile shows and exhibits.
