For experienced classical guitar players, you will work on scales and arpeggios at grades 7 & 8, and learn to play fingerstyle versions of Baroque, Latin/Spanish and contemporary music.

Continue learning to speak Spanish on this lively, communicative course for near beginners. Taught in Spanish with the emphasis on developing your listening and speaking skills. Based on units 11-15 of Ele Actual A1(IF) (libro del alumno) and exercise book (SM Publishers). Suitable if you have completed Spanish beginners: module 2.

Learn the basics of playing cello in a friendly environment, using a range of fun music. Suitable for those who have been learning for at least two terms.

If you have completed 'Cello 2B, or have had at least one year’s tuition (playing at around grade 2



standard), explore cello technique and repertoire, including ensemble music.

Learn the basics of playing violin or viola in a friendly environment, using a range of fun music. Suitable for those who have been learning for at least a term.

Can you play grade 2 standard pieces? Improve your hand coordination, musical phrasing, reading and finger technique, and improve your confidence in this second term of level 3.

This course is for students who have a minimum of four years' experience on clarinet (playing at grade 5 standard or above), come and work on both technique and solo repertoire and enjoy some group playing. Offered every term.

If you have been learning violin/viola for two to three years (playing at grade 2-3 standard), take the next step to learn vibrato, positions above 1st, and improved bow control.

This course is for students who have a minimum of four years' experience (playing at around grade 4-5 standard). Come and work on both technical and solo work, and enjoy learning some ensemble repertoire.

Develop your fluency on this course taught in Chinese, with the emphasis on speaking and listening. Suitable if you have studied Chinese (Mandarin) for 3-4 years or have a fairly good command of the language. Suitable if you have completed 'Chinese 3 lower: module 2', or studied Chinese for about three years, know about 500 Chinese characters and have a fairly good command of the language.

Develop a range of technical skills on the flute in this intermediate-level course: technique, sight reading plus playing solo and ensemble repertoire with your teacher in a group class. You should have one to two years' experience and play at grade 2 to 3 standard.

Come and join us at the Cultureplex Ciné-Club 2, where once a week, for 12 weeks (and throughout the academic



year), we will watch and discuss film. Taking its cue from the famous Parisian ciné-club set up by the celebrated critic and writer, André Bazin, ‘the single thinker most responsible for bestowing on cinema the prestige both of an artform and of an object of knowledge’, and the man who foresaw the emergence of film studies as a legitimate discipline of academic study, our contemporary incarnation of the film club will offer a curated series of films for detailed study, discussion and debate. Each film will be introduced, placed in both its cinematic, cultural and historic context. In sharing our viewing in City Lit’s premier screening room, the Cultureplex, we will approximate the experience of watching film in the cinema, one that is intense and fully focussed in a way that other modes of viewing often are not. After the screening we will devote the rest of the class to a collective exploration of the film, led by the tutor, but involving everyone in a participatory discussion that will allow all to express their responses, their views, their thoughts on the film screened.







Please note that this course will screen a new and different set of films to HF211 Cultureplex Cine-Club, which will run with the same films screened last year. If you took the Cultureplex Cine-Club course last year (2023-4), please ensure that you take the Cultureplex Cine-Club 2 courses this year.
