For experienced classical guitar players, you will work on scales and arpeggios at grades 7 & 8, and learn to play fingerstyle versions of Baroque, Latin/Spanish and contemporary music.

This course is for students who have a minimum of four years' experience on clarinet (playing at grade 5 standard or above), come and work on both technique and solo repertoire and enjoy some group playing. Offered every term.

This class is designed for those who already have previous dance experience. Here, you will be taught new steps and techniques to develop coordination, flexibility and strength. The main aim of the course is for you to continue to learn and develop your new skills whilst having fun and growing in confidence.

Come and join us at the Cultureplex Ciné-Club 2, where once a week, for 12 weeks (and throughout the academic



year), we will watch and discuss film. Taking its cue from the famous Parisian ciné-club set up by the celebrated critic and writer, André Bazin, ‘the single thinker most responsible for bestowing on cinema the prestige both of an artform and of an object of knowledge’, and the man who foresaw the emergence of film studies as a legitimate discipline of academic study, our contemporary incarnation of the film club will offer a curated series of films for detailed study, discussion and debate. Each film will be introduced, placed in both its cinematic, cultural and historic context. In sharing our viewing in City Lit’s premier screening room, the Cultureplex, we will approximate the experience of watching film in the cinema, one that is intense and fully focussed in a way that other modes of viewing often are not. After the screening we will devote the rest of the class to a collective exploration of the film, led by the tutor, but involving everyone in a participatory discussion that will allow all to express their responses, their views, their thoughts on the film screened.







Please note that this course will screen a new and different set of films to HF211 Cultureplex Cine-Club, which will run with the same films screened last year. If you took the Cultureplex Cine-Club course last year (2023-4), please ensure that you take the Cultureplex Cine-Club 2 courses this year.

Develop a range of technical skills on the flute in this intermediate-level course: technique, sight reading plus playing solo and ensemble repertoire with your teacher in a group class. You should have one to two years' experience and play at grade 2 to 3 standard.

For pianists with around four years' experience. Improve your finger technique, coordination, phrasing, music



reading, and your confidence.

If you have pop piano training or equivalent classical keyboard harmony skill, come and tackle the easier end of the jazz piano repertoire. The focus is on jazz harmony and voicing, interpretation of a lead sheet and good timing. You'll need to play piano at grade 5 or above.

Our improvers class is an exciting new dance class for people over 60 who would like to engage their body in a more challenging and dynamic manner, to further develop their skill and knowledge of dance cultures.



We aim to improve stamina, coordination, balance, confidence and musicality. The class will consist of a mixture of exercises and dance sequences set to great music.

Continue learning to speak Italian on this communicative course, with the emphasis on the practical use of Italian and the development of your speaking and listening skills. Suitable if you have completed beginners: module 2 or equivalent. Based on Nuovo Espresso 1 (Alma Edizioni - Italian version). Suggested progression route: Italian 2 lower: module 1.

Can you have short conversations in English, and read and write simple emails, but want to do more? This course will help you talk, read and write about more interesting subjects and make fewer mistakes so people can understand you, you can understand them and you can read and write important messages, emails, forms and news stories. You will improve your vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. By the end of this three-term programme you will able to interact confidently with English speakers in your daily life. An ensemble ukulele class with individual parts. For experienced players who read chord symbols and tablature, although tab reading is not a mandatory requirement. Challenging and fun - the music/repertoire will be tailored to your various abilities.

For ukulele players who have completed a beginners' course or have played for a while. Refine your technique, get a better understanding of fretboard navigation, and learn to play new songs.
