What is the course about?

This course encourages you to experiment with a variety of textile elements, including embroidered beads, to create tactile, colourful and sculptural knotted cords that can be transformed into textile jewellery.

What will we cover?

You will see and handle samples of knotted cords and textile jewellery with a variety of materials including
embroidered beads. After viewing practical demonstrations from the tutor you will take part in practical workshops in both morning and afternoon sessions.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Learn how to create knotted forms with a variety of textile materials
- Experiment with textiles to create different sculptural forms and colour combinations
- Make a series of knotted cords with threads, yarns and fabrics
- Finish knotted cords with a specific knots and hand-sewing
- Create at least one finished piece of knotted textile jewellery.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This informal workshop is suitable for all levels who have good hand dexterity. Remember to bring your reading glasses if you require them to view close details.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be shown examples of knotted cords and finished jewellery to handle. Your tutor will provide group and individual re-cap of demonstrations as required throughout the day. You will have one-to-one guidance as needed. You will also take away an illustrated handout and materials list to continue practice in your own time beyond the workshop.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All essential materials and sewing tools will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own sewing kit, collection of cords, threads, knitting yarns and fabrics, particularly clothing that is no longer worn or any off-cuts from your own textile projects.
