Learn Ancient & Classical Languages Online

Explore the legacy of our past through a range of ancient and classical languages including Latin, Classical and New Testament Greek, Biblical Hebrew and Sanskrit. Our courses range from beginners to advanced levels. You can work towards joining a reading group where you will tackle some of the more advanced texts in the original language.

  13. Psalms and Prayer: their use in church and synagogue through music and the arts

    The Psalms are often referred to as “the heart of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible” or as John Calvin said, the Psalms represent ‘an anatomy of all parts of the soul, for there is not an emotion of which any one can be conscious that is not here represented as in a mirror.’ Within 150 variations, the Psalms express a wide variety of emotions, from despair, to thanksgiving and confidence in the eventual triumph of God’s purposes in the world. These expressions of emotion serve as patterns of prayer to shape the emotions and actions of Jews and Christians throughout the ages.

Language courses at all levels and in 19 different languages are offered at City Lit. Whether you would like to attend part-time or weekend language classes, our highly popular language lessons offer the widest choice in London. Most language courses are taught at seven different levels and you can start anywhere from beginner to advanced.
