If your advanced French is a bit rusty and you wish you could reactivate your passive knowledge, this is the right course for you. This course will help you access your dormant French and bring it back to life. After attending this course you should be able join a level 4 or 5 course.

This engaging online course invites you to explore the rich world of French-language series. Each week, you'll watch a selected episode from acclaimed series like Manon, 20 ans (Arte, gratuit), Au Service de la France (TV5+, gratuit), Versailles (Prime), Baron noir (Prime) . Together, we’ll dive into the plot, characters, and cultural themes, all while sharpening your listening and speaking skills in French.

The French Film matinées are a chance to find out more about French cinema in the college. The films will be presented by tutor Stéphanie Radet.

On course EVLFW33, the film we will be watching is au revoir là-haut d'Albert Dupontel (2017), a French historical war drama that follows the story of Edouard Péricourt and Albert Maillard, two soldiers who met during World War I.

On course LFW34, the film we will be watching is inspired by the 2005 riots in Paris, les Misérables, directed by Ladj Ly. The film follows Stéphane (Damien Bonnard), a recent transplant to the impoverished suburb of Montfermeil, as he joins the local anti-crime squad. Working alongside his unscrupulous colleagues Chris (Alexis Manenti) and Gwada (Djebril Zonga), Stéphane struggles to maintain order amidst the mounting tensions between local gangs. When an arrest turns unexpectedly violent, the three officers must reckon with the aftermath and keep the neighbourhood from spiralling out of control.

Personnage d'une immense discrétion, Georges Brassens a inscrit son nom dans le patrimoine artistique français en créant un style unique sculpté autour de mélodies simples et de textes qui sont autant de chefs-d'œuvre poétiques.

Ce cours a pour objectif de vous faire découvrir la vie et la carrière de cet artiste, figure éminente de la chanson française traditionnelle, en mettant l'accent sur les textes de ses chansons, leurs thèmes et leur importance culturelle.

À l’aide d’une sélection de titres, nous examinerons comment Brassens allie forme poétique, langage courant, familier, même parfois argotique, pour aborder des questions de liberté, de moralité et de conventions sociales.

Par ailleurs, le format interactif du cours vous permettra de consolider vos compétences audio-orales en écoutant et analysant les paroles des textes de Brassens ainsi que leur prosodie, ceci afin de vous amener à échanger opinions, points de vue et impressions personnelles.

This skills-based course is for lower intermediate learners of French and aims to train you on strategies you can apply to listen more effectively to spoken French in a variety of different contexts. You will also look at elements of French pronunciation to give you a better idea of how French is spoken.
