Location on this date: OnlineOld Slavonic was the first Slavic literary language. Old Slavonic played a pivotal role in the formation of the Russian literary language. Historians credit the 9th-century Byzantine missionaries Saints Cyril and Methodius with standardising the language and using it in translating the Bible and other Ancient Greek ecclesiastical texts as part of the Christianization of the Slavs. In this lecture you will discover how Old Slavonic influenced modern Russian.
