This practical course is a progression from Lecoq Technique: Neutral Mask, it builds essentially and swiftly on from the fundamentals of Lecoq’s Pedagogy and dives deeper into the physical training. With this course we are focussing on character, Improvisation, physical storytelling and engagement, bringing the developed presence from Neutral mask into the art of Play.
What will we cover?
In this course we will develop the three pillars of the Lecoq pedagogical journey of training further. The body and character and the Space honing the performers engagement, creating the world around us and how we can translate that into theatrical voices. You will do this by working in improvisational settings in small groups and individually, developing your own character over the course from physical techniques/approaches and then perform with this character in a scene you will have developed.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
•Be more physically aware of your body in performance, while commanding and holding the space •Experience improvisational techniques further building confidence and presence in yourself •Create characters physically that are articulate and nuanced and play these characters in improvised scenes •Explore devising techniques and develop your own work with peers in class using the Lecoq training •Perform in both spoken and non-verbal ways of performance with a rich and thorough engagement in your body
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
An understanding of acting and physical training practices is useful and you should be open to improvisational and ensemble-based creation. Experience in Lecoq Techniques, especially neutral mask work is preferable and you should becomfortable working in a collaborative, exploratory environment

Sean trained at École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, a world renowned school for physical theatre. Over the two years he trained in devised theatre, ensemble building, character development, mask work, mime, object manipulation / puppetry and clowning, among a vast array of other training. Sean also trained at East 15 Acting School on the BA Hons / Acting & Stage Combat degree graduating in 2011, gaining specialist skills in nine different weapon sets alongside an extensive acting program, in contemporary and classical work and practitioners. Sean works as a performer, director and choreographer, and regularly leads workshops and courses for theatre companies across the UK, Europe and Asia. His approach to theatre follows predominantly from his training at Lecoq, with the body and with a playful curiosity, exploring the space and how the body moves within it. In his courses he hopes to open up a deeper understanding of performance technique, emotional engagement, physicality and the exploration of all aspects of life through theatre and to share his deep profound love of what he does with others.
