What is the course about?
Using a computer effectively is now an essential skill. ECDL is the world's number one IT user qualification and is recognised by employers in the UK and all over the globe as a benchmark for IT competence. Gaining this qualification will improve your employment prospects and allow you to prove your IT skills if you are looking for a job or promotion at work. The course is a full level 2 qualification and is comprised of four units. You will need to pass all four units to be awarded the BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra). You will gain confidence, knowledge and understanding of the three main Microsoft applications required in the workplace - Word, Excel and PowerPoint – as well as improve your productivity through IT use.
You will gain confidence, knowledge and understanding of the three main Microsoft applications required in the workplace - Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
To gain entry on this course you need to be a confident computer user with an understanding of file management. You do not need extensive experience of Word, Excel or PowerPoint as these applications will be taught on the course.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera.

What will we cover?
ECDL Level 2 is made up of 4 modules:
Word processing software. You will focus on the use of Word to
• create documents
• manipulate and format text
• insert and manipulate images within a document
• import objects and graphics
• use mail merge tools
• create, manipulate and format tables
• preview and print documents
Spreadsheet software. You will focus on Excel to:
• understand the basic concepts of spreadsheets
• create a spreadsheet
• insert and format data
• create, format and adjust charts
• create formulae and functions and copy them to other cells
• apply settings for printing
Presentation software. You will focus on PowerPoint to:
• create, format, modify and prepare presentations using different slide layouts using PowerPoint
• duplicate and move text, images, charts
• create and modify organisational charts
• apply slide transitions and animation effects
• apply slide designs using presents and templates
• apply various print options
Improving productivity using IT. You will develop your skills to:
• plan, evaluate and improve procedures involving the use of IT tools and systems in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of work activities
You will cover all the main areas of these programs to become a competent use of them.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should be a confident computer user with good file management skills. If you have completed ECDL Level 1 at another training provider, you should bring proof of successful completion of level 1 to your interview. You will need to have a pre-course assessment before joining this course. You need to be able to attend every class and prepare for the exam outside the classroom. If you are not able to do this, please ask about our non-accredited course.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment with an emphasis on your discovering how to do and complete tasks and functions, with guidance from the tutor. You will learn in a step by step manner so you can achieve challenging aims in an enjoyable and productive way. You will have lots of opportunities to practise as well as understand what you are doing and why. Everyone will be encouraged to participate and interact in a way that is best for them, including working in pairs and groups, as well as on your own. You will need to do work outside the classroom and use Google Classroom to help you.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You need to bring a pen, paper and folder to your class. The non-refundable Examination Fee is included in the fee.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
There are many courses you can do after this one. Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Advanced) is the direct progression, but we also have a number of intermediate and advanced courses in Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint which are specifically geared to helping you in the workplace.
