What is the course about?
The course will explore a variety of experimental drawing approaches and processes with a range of materials to
expand and sharpen your personal visual vocabulary. You'll be encouraged to embrace self-expression and the
imagination; session content will be contextualised by looking at the work of exciting contemporary artists.
What will we cover?
The course will explore a variety of approaches to the life model
Mark-making to convey atmosphere
Dynamic drawing techniques
Quick sketching of figure in movement
Mixed-media materials and techniques eg clayslip, wire-drawing etc
Collaborative work
How to explore the notion of 'making mistakes' and 'letting go of control'.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Demonstrate an ability to use a variety of mark-making techniques
Use a range of mixed-media processes that explore materiality
Make use of strategies employed by a variety of contemporary artists to refresh your drawing practice
Appraise your own work and make informed decisions to make a personal response to the life model.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is suitable for those with some previous experience of drawing who are interested in expanding their understanding of more contemporary approaches to life drawing and/or who wish to re-fresh their practice or stimulate new ways of working from the life model.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Practical tasks, demonstration, 1:1 support and group discussion.
