What is the course about?

We will get stronger and fitter together! Each class will include a warmup, some gentle cardio movements, strength exercises and stretching. The class is chair-based, with the option of coming to standing or a mat for some sequences. Students will be encouraged to go at their own pace and rest at any time. You will learn to use weights and other equipment and feel more confident and empowered to maintain and increase your strength and fitness levels.

Self-care – joining in at a suitable pace and level
- Adapting exercises to suit individual needs
- Positive mindset
- Using weights and exercise equipment
- Substituting exercise equipment for household
objects
- Learning a range of movements and sequences
- Learning a range of strength, mobility, and
stretching exercises

 

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Practice a range of seated, standing, and floor-based exercises safely
- Perform warm up and cool down exercises
- Practice a variety of stretches to increase flexibility
- Feel confident using lightweights and other exercise equipment
- Practice cardio exercise to boost your fitness levels
- Choose to exercise at your own pace and adapt exercises to suit you

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No prior knowledge or experience is needed. Beginners are very welcome.

 

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Demonstrations, verbal instructions, one-to-one guidance, and encouragement.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Wear comfortable clothing.

For online courses the following equipment is recommended:
- Lightweights (1-3kg)
- Resistance band (light-medium-strong)
- Small (25 cm) Pilates ball
- Foam block
- Exercise mat
- Upright chair/ stool

Madlyn Ray-Jones

Madlyn is an experienced yoga teacher and massage therapist who loves to share the joy and transformative power of yoga with with people of all ages and abilities. Having trained in Hatha and Perinatal Yoga, Madlyn now weaves together strength training, restorative movement, and stretching, in gentle sequences. Madlyn’s classes always include breathing exercises, meditation and deep relaxation. Her compassionate style of teaching encourages students to adapt the practice as needed, and to connect with their breath, move mindfully, and relax deeply. Madlyn teaches for organisations, yoga studios, and gyms, as well as teaching and massaging private clients, and leading yoga retreats. Madlyn is a dedicated mum to 2 kids, a dog and a cat, and is a disability advocate, supporting individuals with complex needs. Courses at City LIt include Mixed Level: Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and online Light weights for everyday strength.
