- recognise visible speech sounds and their value - recognise which consonants look alike on the lips - use receptive finger spelling skills to support your lipreading.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The class is aimed at people with an acquired hearing loss who use spoken English to communicate with others. This course will be taught in spoken and written English and not in sign language. Straightforward written sentences are used in exercises and during teaching to confirm spoken words. No previous experience of lipreading is necessary. The course is for people who have completed beginners module 1 or those who have attended a lipreading class in the past and have a basic understanding of consonant theory and finger spelling. You may also like to enrol on this course to support a friend or family member who has hearing loss.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
In class there will be group work, pair work, practical work, lecture, demonstration and discussion.
We aim to make all our lipreading teaching accessible for students with an acquired hearing loss, whether it is an online course or face to face.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
