What is the course about?

Meet in the City Lit Gallery in Keeley street for the first class.
This series of walks is designed to introduce you to some of the photographic delights of London.Through guided walks, you will learn about these locations and a range of skills and techniques to photograph them effectively. Some of the walks will require a short tube journey, others are a short walk from City Lit.

What will we cover?

- The basics of low light level photography
- Shutter speed settings and motion blur
- Aperture and shutter priority and manual functions.
- Using ambient light sources: natural and artificial.
- Photographic rights and responsibilities when photographing in public spaces.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Choose appropriate lenses for your image
- Control depth of field through aperture settings
- Demonstrate use of shutter speeds for intended effects
- Identify the technical demands of low light level in photography.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an intermediate course. You will be expected to have a knowledge of the basic manual functions of the
camera including aperture, shutter speeds, and ISO or have undertaken a beginner’s course in
photography.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Through the walks you will be given information about the area that can inform your photographic decisions. You
will be taught using a range of techniques including demonstrations and group and individual assistance.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring your camera to the classes and you may wish to bring a notebook and pen. You are welcome to shoot digitally or with film. The feedback from digital capture is instantaneous and is useful for experimentation. There may be short tube journeys so bring an Oyster card.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

The City lit has over seventy different practical and theoretical photography courses. You can search on the web site at www.citylit.ac.uk.
