What is the course about?

Conflict is not something we should ignore. It is more likely to be prevalent in the world of work where there is uncertainly, scarcity of resources and sometimes contradictory goals. By managing conflict, we find new ways to way to meet both parties' need, to stop unnecessary escalation and most important, see it as an opportunity for improvement

This course is for learners who need methods and tools to manage conflict at work, to help them become effective and solution minded. We will use your real-life challenges and opportunities to test the methods.

The course will be interactive and experiential.

What will we cover?

• Understand why conflict occurs at work and its root causes
• Find ways to manage conflict, and see it as an opportunity for improvement
• An assessment to understand your conflict style (Thomas Kilman model)
• Scenarios to test different conflict management styles.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Learn why conflict happens and the choices you face
- Experience specific tools around listening and creation of solutions
- Develop your conflict management style
- Explore different styles to manage conflict.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is designed for beginners or intermediate learners with little or no experience of the material. Participants will come to the course with an open mind and willing to be challenged.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The teaching will be a mixture of presentation and exercises.

Ketan Varia

Ketan teaches courses in Business Skills and Indian Philosophy/History at CityLit. In his career Ketan has worked with over 30 large and complex organisations in helping them with Operational Excellence and Change Management. He is the author of the book ‘The Art of Transformational Change – a handbook for leaders and managers’, published in October 2015. Ketan is of indian hertitage and has visited many places of pilgrimage and history in India over the last 25 years. He has learnt Sanskrit to foundation level and studied several Indian sutras. He has delivered courses in Jain Philosophy for over 15 years.
