Maths at work series - working with percentages

Do you use percentages at work? Would you like to feel more confident in your methods of calculating these? Can you interpret results and quote percentages in discussions? This standalone session will look at a variety of percentage questions, the most economical calculation methods, interpreting results and drawing conclusions.

What is the course about?

calculate percentages of quantities
finding one number as a percentage of another
calculating percentage change, increase and decrease
applying these to a variety of contexts to draw conclusions and make statements about your data.

What will we cover?

By the end of this course you should be able to...

Applying appropriate methods to calculate percentages and draw conclusions about your data.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is at Level 2
You should be able to understand instructions in English and able to write short sentences.
You should be able to use a basic calculator.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching will be in a supportive group setting, which involves pair and small group work. The interactive whiteboard and computers will help your learning. Handouts and worksheets will be provided by the tutor.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a calculator. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You could join our session on Analysing Data in the Workplace, where you will be able to apply your percentages to your analysis of data.

Depending on your level of maths, you may like to join one of our Level 1 or 2 Functional Skills courses, or our GCSE maths courses which will start in Sept 2018. Your tutor will discuss this with you and arrange for an assessment to check level.
