What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Understand the meaning of Deaf history and its significance. - Recognise how Deaf history connects to the broader Deaf community's experiences and achievements. - Explore the meaning of Deaf culture, including shared values, language, and traditions. - Recognise the importance of identity and the sense of belonging within the Deaf community. - Understand how timelines help organise and visualise historical events. - Recognise how historical events have shaped the Deaf community over time. - Do research and give a presentation about their findings. - Learn how to create a simple timeline using personal events as examples. - Use the activity to relate the concept of timelines to the study of deaf history.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught in a deaf-only group with a tutor that is fluent in British Sign Language. Teaching will be in a supportive group setting, which involves pair and small group work. The interactive whiteboard and google classroom will also help your learning.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
It is recommended that you bring: appropriate stationary (e.g. pens, highlighter pens etc); a notebook;.
