Learn advanced features of Access databases to manage and analyse large amounts of data. Create a relational database using advanced table creation features and complex relationships between tables, data validation, advanced form design, sub-forms, multiple queries for data analysis, advanced reports, macros and switchboard. Knowledge required: Access essentials course or equivalent knowledge and experience.

What is the course about?

You will be introduced to some of the more advanced features in Microsoft Access objects, including Tables, Forms, Reports, Queries, Macros and creating Relationships between the Tables and Queries. You will be given prepared files for use and will not be required to enter large amounts of data.

You can choose to attend this course either live online or in person.
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.

• Relationships
• Advanced form design

• Macros.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Recognise the need for data analysis as a prelude to setting up a database
• Identify the role of forms and develop additional form functionality
• Creating relationships between Tables and Queries
• Recognise the need for data validation to ensure accurate data capture and to stop errors
• Formulate complex queries to extract and manipulate data
• Produce reports which group and sort data, transforming data into information
• Use macros to automate functions and processes.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Some familiarities with Microsoft Access will be beneficial, however a good recap on the basics will be provided.
You should also be able to follow spoken and written instructions and be comfortable carrying out mathematical calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is an advanced course and would be useful to have some understanding of Microsoft Access interface. You should also be able to follow spoken and written instructions and be comfortable carrying out mathematical calculations.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Pen and paper will be useful. Notes are provided. Computers are provided for each student in the classroom. Should you wish to attend the course remotely/online you will need to have Microsoft Access installed on your computer. If you need a Microsoft 365 licence, the college can provide it for the duration of the course.

Please note, Microsoft Access is available to be installed on a Windows operating system but is not possible to be installed on a Mac computer.

Aurica Jalba

Aurica Jalba has been lecturing for over 8 years MS Office at City Lit and providing Bloomberg training to undergraduate and MBA students at the University of East London (UEL). Aurica developed her teaching passion during her studies at university and strongly believes that education is for everyone and she is passionate about long-life learning. Her main priority is to treat everyone inclusive and support in the classroom and outside the classroom. She is well known for her patience, dedication, and clarity in teaching. She has developed some courses at City Lit, bespoke training for an Indian Delegation, and providing training for companies as a freelancer. From September 2019 she has been appointed as a Coordinator for the Business and Technology department. Aurica holds a Diploma in Ecology, BSs Economics, MS Finance and Risk, is an Associate to the Chartered Banker Institute (CBI) and BMC (Bloomberg Market Concepts) among others. In 2016, she was awarded the 3rd Place Winner leading a team at the UK University Trading challenge in trading. In 2015 she was involved in a research project about the feasibility of a 1mln pounds investment in Ghana.
