Mindfulness and the person-centred approach

Carl Rogers writes of a 'way of being' in a therapeutic relationship that is healing. Mindfulness is the practice of ‘being present’ to ourselves. In this workshop we will explore the complementary nature of these ‘arts of being’.


What is the course about?

We will explore the connections between mindfulness and the person centred approach. We will do this using different meditation practices, experiential exercises, discussion and some background theory on mindfulness and the PCA.

What will we cover?

What is mindfulness? Various meditation practices.
Carl Rogers: ‘What heals?’.
The ‘Doing mind’ and ‘Get me out of here!’
The experiencing self and the self-concept.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Describe mindfulness.
Practice meditation for self-awareness.
Describe Carl Rogers’ insights into healing.
Describe the complementary nature of mindfulness and the person centred approach.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Some familiarity with Carl Rogers and the Person Centred Approach would be helpful.
A willingness to participate in groupwork and pairwork and to share in discussions and personal reflections.
