What is the course about?

This course is a short introduction to monoptype, a process that involves the manipulation of ink on a surface and its subsequent transfer to paper. You will learn the basic techniques needed to create striking, unique, printed images quickly and easily.

What will we cover?

We will look at various monotype techniques focussing mainly on direct drawing and subtractive printing..
Additionally, we will look at simple ways of developing imagery using stencils and collage.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Use the subtractive monotype technique to produce an image
Understand that how you apply and remove ink produces different effects
Develop your own image into a subtractive monotype
Learn how to safely use a printing press to print your image.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for beginners, or for those who wish to refresh their knowledge.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by demonstration and practical application. Technical information will be supported with handouts and throughout the session you will be guided by your tutor. There is no need to work outside the class.
