Get an insight into the various genres and styles of Arabic music and sample a selection of Arabic melodies. Open to all levels.

Description

What is the course about?

You will be introduced to popular music of the Arab world, and learn to sing a song with tune and rhythm from
non-western traditions.

What will we cover?

This is a chance to explore some Arabic songs from different countries and with different musical styles.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Have a greater appreciation of the music and songs explored.
- Enjoy the practical experience of singing a traditional song.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No formal skills are necessary; the course is suitable for beginners but will also offer insight and challenge for those who understand Arabic.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by listening to sample music, lecture, demonstration and practical rehearsal session.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Music recording and handouts will be provided. But you can bring your instrument if you are able to play by ear.
