What is the course about?

This course is a continuation of the Norwegian beginners course module 3, building upon and expanding basic Norwegian conversational skills as well as increasing knowledge of Norwegian culture.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Norwegian vocabulary and structures on Norwegian culture, geography and nature, everyday living, lifestyles and current affairs, houses and living arrangements,.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Talk about likes and dislikes
Express our emotions
- Talk about events in the past with confidence
- Agree and disagree in a conversation
- Talk about geography and facts about a country
- Write letters, e-mails and messages in Norwegian.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for low intermediate – students should have completed Norwegian beginners module 3 or studied Norwegian for at least 6 month recently.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

This course will be delivered online, and will involve tutor presentation and class discussion. Student preparation and homework outside class times is strongly encouraged. To fully participate in this online class you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome). Your device will need a microphone, and preferably a camera.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Your tutor will advise you on your course material on the first session.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

If there is demand, Norwegian 2 module 2 in January if there is enough demand. Talk to your tutor.

Eva Morkeset

Eva is a native Norwegian and has been teaching Norwegian, drama and creative communication for many years, to both adults and children. She has a great passion for teaching and finds it hugely rewarding to see learners develop their skills and express themselves with growing confidence in a new language. “Learning a language is so much more than understanding the grammar and memorizing words - it is taking in and embracing a whole new culture, and it is an amazing privilege to be allowed to be part of this process as a teacher.” Eva is also an actor and writes stories for children and young people.
