This popular course explores musical theatre singing. Grow your knowledge of the repertoire. Suitable for singers and actors wanting to improve their singing and 'acting through song' technique. Be guided through the basics to find the right singing qualities for this repertoire.

Come and join us at the Cultureplex Ciné-Club 2, where once a week, for 12 weeks (and throughout the academic



year), we will watch and discuss film. Taking its cue from the famous Parisian ciné-club set up by the celebrated critic and writer, André Bazin, ‘the single thinker most responsible for bestowing on cinema the prestige both of an artform and of an object of knowledge’, and the man who foresaw the emergence of film studies as a legitimate discipline of academic study, our contemporary incarnation of the film club will offer a curated series of films for detailed study, discussion and debate. Each film will be introduced, placed in both its cinematic, cultural and historic context. In sharing our viewing in City Lit’s premier screening room, the Cultureplex, we will approximate the experience of watching film in the cinema, one that is intense and fully focussed in a way that other modes of viewing often are not. After the screening we will devote the rest of the class to a collective exploration of the film, led by the tutor, but involving everyone in a participatory discussion that will allow all to express their responses, their views, their thoughts on the film screened.







Please note that this course will screen a new and different set of films to HF211 Cultureplex Cine-Club, which will run with the same films screened last year. If you took the Cultureplex Cine-Club course last year (2023-4), please ensure that you take the Cultureplex Cine-Club 2 courses this year.

This course will explore how Britain and France reacted to the rise of Hitler and how the Nazi dictatorship led to strife between former allies, but eventual partnership and triumph.

Perfect if you've never taken a ballet class before, or if you did ballet as a child and want to return. This men’s ballet course provides slow and fun training in how to use your body correctly, with a focus on correct placement, stance and posture.

This course is for flautists with at least three years’ experience, or grade 3-5 standard, to advance their solo and ensemble playing in a variety of musical styles. Develop your instrumental technique, tone and musicianship in a creative and supportive environment.

For pianists with around four years' experience. Improve your finger technique, coordination, phrasing, music



reading, and your confidence. Break weeks: 6 May & 27 May 2024.

If you have pop piano training or equivalent classical keyboard harmony skill, come and tackle the easier end of the jazz piano repertoire. The focus is on jazz harmony and voicing, interpretation of a lead sheet and good timing. You'll need to play piano at grade 5 or above.

Continue your study of singing and learn songs in popular music styles of folk, jazz, pop, rock, musical theatre. Live sessions online. Develop your musicianship, and add new songs to your repertoire. New students with experience of singing and some formal training are welcome.

Our improvers class is an exciting new dance class for people over 60 who would like to engage their body in a more challenging and dynamic manner, to further develop their skill and knowledge of dance cultures.



We aim to improve stamina, coordination, balance, confidence and musicality. The class will consist of a mixture of exercises and dance sequences set to great music.

This fourth year of our piano programme begins with repertoire of grade 2 standard with the goal of working towards grade 3. Improve your hand co-ordination, musical phrasing, reading and finger technique, and improve your confidence.
