    The Brazilian Portuguese Film Matinee is a chance to find out more about Brazilian cinema in the college. The film will be presented by one of our wonderful Brazilian Portuguese tutors and there will be a discussion afterwards.

    The film we will be watching is the critically-acclaimed Aquarius, a 2016 co-production of Brazil and France, directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and starring Sônia Braga;

  2. Music analysis for listeners: Messiah Part I

    Handel’s Messiah, composed in1741, is a stalwart work for concert programmers everywhere at Christmas and Easter. We look at Part I, from the beginning to the duet and chorus ‘His yoke is easy’, briefly putting the work in context and examining its forms and overall structure. We will then analyse a passage of recitative, an aria, and a chorus, in order to show how the composer created his effects and how effective this was for audiences then and now. *This course includes a 60 minute break.

  5. Italian film night

    With proceeds going to the City Lit Student Bursary, the Italian Film Night is a chance to round out the term with a fun movie night in the college. The film will be presented by Francesco Bucciol, head of the Classics department and our Italian GCSE and A Level tutor. Francesco will also lead a discussion (in Italian) about the film, but there is no obligation for you to speak Italian if you don't wish to. 

    For this term's Italian film night, we will be showing and discussing excerpts from a classic (perhaps THE classic) Italian film, La Dolce Vita.
