What is the course about?
This course will use mindfulness exercises such as awareness of breath, bodily sensations, sounds, thoughts and feelings as well as discussion and practical exercises to address issues that every musician faces.
What will we cover?
In the course we will look at ways to improve ease and coordination in playing or singing, practise more thoughtfully, listen well when playing or singing with others, find more ways to relate to the musical score and perform with enjoyment and confidence. Participants will be given the opportunity to try out various techniques of practising, playing and performing on their instruments or voice, in the class.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Recognise the principles of mindfulness and its applications in daily life
- Gain more control over your emotional life and its effect on your musical performance skills
- Use mindfulness techniques to enhance your practising, playing with others, performing and general enjoyment of music.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for all levels but may have particular value for more advanced players.
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Through led meditations, exercises, group discussion, handouts, and practical demonstrations.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring your instruments to the class. There are no other costs.
