What is the course about?
Singers will learn about Music Performance Anxiety and how they personally experience it. They will investigate their fears and work to reframe these messages. Students will be given tools to create a pre peformance plan that will give them agency over their MPA.
What will we cover?
-Exercises to control breathing when singing
-Visualisation exercises for better performance
- Learn about MPA through a series of guided discussions and articles shared through google classroom.
- How to journal for self reflection
- Singing exercises to combat nerves.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
-Demonstrate an awareness of your own experience of MPA
-Create personalised pre perfromance plan to help combat stage fright
-Perform with a greater sense of confidence
-Gain a series of exercises designed to help with performance anxiety.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Some experience of solo singing is necessary to get the most out of this specilsed course though the course is open to beginner and advanced singers alike.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Classes will begin with a physical and vocal warm up
You will be taught in a classroom in a workshop style format singing to the class each week with a professional accompanist.
Light journalling will be required
Google classroom will be used to share articles/podcasts
Class disscusion

Katherine is a music director, actor, singer, and vocal coach based in London and Brighton. She has appeared in theatre productions across the U.S. and internationally, and as a concert vocalist with Opéra de Rennes, Pasadena Symphony-Pops, Seattle Symphony, and acclaimed pianist Peter Nero. She has taught singers of all ages and at all stages of learning for nearly two decades, and was a musical theatre instructor, singing teacher, and music director at Cornish College of the Arts before relocating to the UK. Katherine holds a Master of Science in Performance Science from the Royal College of Music.
