A unique and excellent opportunity to gain ‘hands on’ experience in one or more areas of technical production in theatre. The course introduces all aspects of mounting a theatre production including stage management, lighting and sound. Following preliminary practical sessions, you will develop your skills while working as part of the student technical team, supporting City Lit Theatre Company's production of Chekhov's Ivanov. Suitable for beginners or those with previous experience.

Do you want to be an actor but find it hard to fit the training around your other commitments? This intensive and practical accredited course, running two weekday evenings each week, provides classes in the core disciplines of acting, voice and movement, and culminates in a showing of contemporary scenework to an invited audience. Successful candidates achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Performing Arts awarded by OCN London.

A wonderful opportunity to be part of a theatre company working alongside an experienced professional director and a team of techical theatre students to stage a play from scratch in six weeks. Use your previous practical training in acting in the context of the performance of a full production in the John Lyons Theatre at City Lit, giving four public performances.

This term, the play is Ivanov by Chekhov, in an English version by Tom Stoppard, directed by Robert Cavanah.

Rehearse scenes and speeches from various Shakespeare's plays. Create vivid performances that are both true to life and true to Shakespeare’s language.

Having an awareness of space and presence and utilising the body to help carve engaging, full-born characters is vital in theatre, whether this be during improvisation, delivering a monologue or throughout the process of a performance. It's important to have the tools to do this!



This course aims to give every member an introductory “toolkit” you can take away with you, freeing your body, exploring character technique, enhancing your improvisational and performance intuition and becoming confident in your craft.

Enrich and develop your skills in this improvisation course. Discover how to improvise dramatically, and apply your skills in an end of term public performance in our in house theatre.

Drawing on Stanislavski’s system you will gain skills to extend your physical, vocal and emotional expression. Suitable for students who wish to work with greater authenticity and depth in their acting. Explore the principles of psychological realism pioneered by Stanislavski and developed by the Method practitioners to enrich and enhance your performances and characterisations in this supportive and expressive environment.

Come together with others to explore the work of different playwrights, share the spoken word and gain insight into different plays. These fun and friendly sessions are for people who would like to read and discuss plays under the guidance of a theatre professional. Working in a supportive atmosphere you will read out loud and discuss the main themes of a range of both contemporary and classic texts. The two plays that will be read are 'Lysistrata' by Aristophanes (Patric Dickinson translation) and 'Three Birds' by Janice Okoh.
