City Lit offers performing arts courses in the heart of Covent Garden in Central London during the evening, daytime and at weekends.   1. Music analysis for listeners: Messiah Part I

    Handel’s Messiah, composed in1741, is a stalwart work for concert programmers everywhere at Christmas and Easter. We look at Part I, from the beginning to the duet and chorus ‘His yoke is easy’, briefly putting the work in context and examining its forms and overall structure. We will then analyse a passage of recitative, an aria, and a chorus, in order to show how the composer created his effects and how effective this was for audiences then and now.

  2. Silver Swans ballet class improvers

    This improvers course will focus on expanding existing knowledge of ballet technique and vocabulary and is designed to enable you to learn and execute more varied and complex movement sequences. There is an emphasis on delivering ballet technique to facilitate healthy joints, flexibility, movement quality and core strength.



    Silver Swans® classes have been specifically designed for the over-55s and the improvers course is suitable for older leaners with at least 1 year of foundation ballet or Silver Swans experience.

With expert guidance you will gain greater confindence and build on your technique as we explore more complex combinations at the barre and in the centre.
