Performing Arts Courses & Classes in London and Online

Designed for students who have completed 'English Pronunciation' stages 1 and 2, and those who have near native placement. Conversation and the reading aloud of a variety of texts will help to pinpoint those pronunciation worries still to be addressed when speaking English as a non-native speaker. This course will be taught in the college.

For jazz vocalists with a sound technique and experience of jazz and Latin styles. Develop your solo performance and expand your repertoire in this further edition of our advanced class. Some repertoire (see below) and vocalese will be taught, and you will be invited to contribute and perform repertoire of your choice.

PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THIS PLAY. A wonderful opportunity to be part of a theatre company working alongside an experienced professional director and a team of techical theatre students to stage a play from scratch in six weeks. Use your previous practical training in acting in the context of the performance of a full production in the John Lyons Theatre at City Lit, giving four public performances.

This is a practical and intensive screen acting course, designed for students to learn how to create characters and be at their best when working within difficult and pressurised circumstances. Ideal for those who have previously studied screen acting and are planning to make the leap into finding work. Also for those who have already broken into the industry but want to make sure they’re at their best when on set.

Develop your confidence and learn the technique's required to create truthful ‘on screen’ performances in this intensive 6 week practical course.

Practise and develop your acting skills by rehearsing in depth scenes from contemporary plays or a whole short play. These will be performed in the college's John Lyons Theatre to an invited audience at the end of the course. This course is suitable for students who have completed a broad range of our acting courses at beginners and improvers level or who have gained suitable experience elsewhere.

Explore the music theory topics equivalent in standard to the first year of an undergraduate degree. The topics in this module are selected from the Trinity Associate (AMusTCL) syllabus. Through a selection of 20 iconic albums, we will study the key figures, the innovators and the star soloists of 20th century jazz, as well as some important artists you might be less familiar with.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, this choral class will give you something to look forward to on a Monday. We sing many genres from musical theatre to pop plus more traditional pieces. This course is very popular, so booking early is essential. Break week 23rd of Oct 2023.

A practical workshop integrating keyboard harmony with piano performance skills. Taught in-person on a grand piano, this workshop is aimed at classical pianists with a music theory standard of grade 6+ and good sheet music reading skills. We shall deepen our understanding of musical works by studying the harmonic constructs that underpin them, tackle the technical challenges they present, and explore how harmonic analysis can inform our interpretative choices. Break week: Mon 23 Oct 2023.

A practical workshop combining keyboard harmony and pianistic technique for classical pianists with a starting standard of grade 6. This advanced 6-module course is taught at the keyboard and takes a historical approach to harmony and technique. We discuss separate eras and their corresponding harmonic developments in each self-contained module, along with main points of evolution in pianistic technique. NB: no break week.

If you play piano at around grade 4 standard, join one of our workshops to develop your playing by studying a wide range of piano repertoire, with a focus on technique, practice and performance skills.

Develop your jazz musicianship, repertoire, playing and improvising. Practise ear training, study jazz harmony, learn challenging repertoire. For players with established jazz education at foundation level. Assessment for entry to this course can be arranged after you apply to music@citylit.ac.uk. Break week: 21 Nov 2023.
