City Lit offers performing arts courses in the heart of Covent Garden in Central London during the evening, daytime and at weekends.     An actors most important tool is their body!



    Having an awareness of space and presence and utilising the body to help carve engaging, full-born characters is vital in theatre, whether this be during improvisation, delivering a monologue or throughout the process of a performance. It's important to have the tools to do this!



    This course aims to give every member an introductory “toolkit” you can take away with you, freeing your body, exploring character technique, enhancing your improvisational and performance intuition and becoming confident in your craft.



    We've changed some of our teaching arrangements in response to the coronavirus outbreak. You'll get the same great learning experience with lots of support but with adjustments to keep us all safe for your return to the studio.

    If you have pop piano training or equivalent keyboard harmony skill, come and tackle the easier end of the jazz piano repertoire in these online sessions.   12. Jazz ensemble playing

    If you already play jazz and have substantial understanding of jazz harmony, come and develop your aural, harmonic and rhythmic sense through practical study of jazz standards, improvisation and transcribed solos.   14. Contemporary dance: styles and techniques

    This twelve-session series led by professional teachers Francis Angol and Orley Quick, will explore different approaches to the practice of Contemporary dance, working through different styles and techniques. Each session has been designed to give students an understanding of the fundamental principle and techniques of each approach taken. Working through fundamentals of movement, properties and the stylistic features of form.







    By the end of the course, we hope you will have gained greater confidence, knowledge and appreciation of Contemporary Dance practice and be able to differentiate between the various styles and technique you may encounter.
