Enjoy playing and improvising on familiar and new jazz repertoire in a mixed ensemble. For players with substantial experience of jazz playing, ear training techniques and harmony study. Tunes will be announced in advance of the course. Rhythm section places are limited so please check vacancies with the music department before you enrol.

Learn essential tools to sing jazz, including what to listen for in the piano accompaniment and the importance of pulse, groove and vocal technique. This day is for singers with musical experience who are new to the jazz idiom.

Learn to play ensemble music for recorders, with repertoire ranging from early to present day. Suitable for recorder players who have been learning for at least a year and can read music.

This course, separate but complementary to the other summer Flamenco dance course, will focus on archetypal Flamenco dance steps and moves with emphasis on dancing style, performance presence and panache. The course will culimate in a short dance sequence with live guitar accompaniment. Suitable for men and women of all ages, from beginners to improvers.

Explore unarmed combat and develop a selection of moves to combine in to a choreographed sequence!



A well-executed fight scene can make stage combat look easy but, much like dancing, it must be intricately choreographed and extensively rehearsed, to provide that authentic feel while remaining safe. Suitable for everyone.

Meet the challenge of singing in contemporary styles. Enjoy learning rock and pop repertoire with guidance from a teacher and performer. You need to be able to sing in time and in tune to benefit from this introductory course.

Open to intermediate/advanced flutes and clarinets to play a range of musical styles (including classical and pop) in a group. Great for sight-reading and ensemble skills! Alto flute, piccolo, Eb and bass clarinets welcome.

The course will cover basic techniques in Mime towards developing and creating worlds alongside opening your body up to expressionistic styles. Through technique and improvisational based classes we will play and explore some of the most renowned exercises in Mime and build on them. Engaging your imagination and developing your awareness of your body as a tool for theatre craft.

Explore your enthusiasm for drumming with African rhythms and their variations. Enjoy improving your individual and group playing skills and learn how to apply a variety of percussive instruments in any musical style or setting.

Rodgers and Hammerstein - Together they created a series of innovative and influential American musicals. Their musical theatre writing partnership has been called the greatest of the 20th century. We will be looking at some of the big ensemble numbers from shows such as Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music alongside a couple of lesser known shows. Alongside soloists required for the ensemble numbers you are invited to bring a piece of your choosing from the vast catalogue of songs by these exceptional composers.
