What is the course about?

You’ll learn to use essential tools in Photoshop. Using both tutor-supplied and your own images, creative demonstrations and practical exercises will allow you to build your basic Photoshop knowledge base to advance skills and refine your photographs for use in personal, commercial, web and print projects.

Our expert tutor will show you how to use and integrate a range of tools to increase the drama of your images and improve your work skills.

- Defining, refining and editing selections
- Working with and manipulating layers
- Making colour and tonal adjustments
- Retouching and repairing photographs
- Saving images and file formats

- Output and archive your images in the correct formats for your projects

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

To get the most out of this course, some prior knowledge of Photoshop is suggested but not essential. You should, as well, know how to use a computer and move files around the system proficiently.

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course structure consists of supervised practical activities, discussions and step by step demonstrations. One-to-one guidance and support will be given throughout. Notes will be provided.

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual. Notes will be provided.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

A pen and paper to take notes. This course is taught on supplied Apple Mac computers, loaded with a current version of the software. Adobe Photoshop is cross platform and there are very few practical differences between PC and Mac computers and this software.

Michael Harding Tutor Website

Michael Harding was born in Canada, where he studied cinema and photography at Concordia University, Montréal, before moving to the UK. Since then, he has created striking images of architecture, art, people and landscapes for international blue-chip clients for their use in editorial, advertising and corporate applications. Michael’s work has won many industry awards, notably being selected in the Eleventh Association of Photographers Awards and further receiving a Merit Award in the Seventeenth Association of Photographers Awards. His work was selected for a Highly Commended Award in the Deutsche Bauzeitung “Visions in Architecture” European Architectural Photography prize. His work has been exhibited in both the United Kingdom and Canada. Michael has been Chairman, as well as President, of the Association of Photographers (AOP). The AOP is Europe’s most established organisation for professional photographers, working to ensure greater recognition for all professional photographers, as well as working to positively influence legislators in the UK and Europe for the benefit of all photographers.
