What is the course about?
This is an introductory creative course designed for students, teachers and textile artists who would like to digitalise their artwork while learning the potential of Photoshop for use in textiles.
What will we cover?
-Mark making using layers
-Painting and drawing digitally on the screen
-Creating pattern and textures
-Scanning images or artwork
- Resizing and digital image manipulation
- File management and saving of digital designs
- Printing possibilities for textiles on digital fine art paper and fabric. We will be using sublimation printing for printing onto fabric.
You will work to a project of your choice, relating to your own work or favoured theme, with guidance from the tutor.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Produce a body of textile work digitally saved work for future development
- Produce some textile artworks as prints on paper or fabric
- Work confidently and competently using a computer and Photoshop for textile design.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Beginners are welcome at this introductory level. Working in Photoshop, you are encouraged to develop your own art work through following the course and instructions.
If you already have some knowledge of the programme you can work at your own level.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, analysing samples, one to one assistance and hand-outs.
Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Digital Arts
Homework is encouraged for practice as this will develop your work and ideas. This is not essential.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring a USB memory stick to save your work with sufficient space to save all your files.
Your sketchbook, photos, artwork and anything you want to develop, or any portfolio, so it is easier to share with the group.
Notebook, and something to store your A4 handouts or samples.
