This course will prepare you for the 'Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera' (DELE) at level B1. Ideal if you would like to live, study or work in a Spanish-speaking country, or are simply looking to challenge yourself. Please note that you should have studied Spanish for about 4 years to take this course.

What is the course about?

This course will enable you to develop and master the 4 skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) and prepare you to sit the DELE B1 exam.

Please note that the exams will be held at the Instituto Cervantes, to whom the exam fees should be paid.

Course dates:

Term 1: 07.10.26 - 02.12.26 / Term 2: 13.01.27 - 03.02.27

Mock exam date: 23/01/27

What will we cover?

DELE exam topics: personal identification, house and home, education and career, leisure travel and transport, social relationships, health, shopping, food and drink, public services, language problems.
Grammar: all the main points of Spanish grammar will be included, especially: past tenses, conditionals, passive, imperative, future tenses, personal pronouns, relative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, conjunctions, word order, subjunctive.

Week 1 – presentation of exam / diagnostic

Week 2 – 3: Topic 1 - Talking about yourself, family, work, cities

Week 4 – 5: Topic 2 - Past experiences, life changes, anecdotes

Week 6 – 7: Topic 3 – Daily life, free time, tastes and preferences

Week 8 – 9: Topic 4 – Information and the media, politics, environment

Christmas break

Week 10 – 11: Topic 5 – Health, food, the body

Saturday of week 11 (23/01): Written Mock Exam

Week 12 – oral mock exam + feedback session and correction of written mock exam

Week 13 – last questions, last feedback, last practice  

 

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-Talk about education, jobs and careers
-Write simple letters
-Ask and give advice (conditional & verbs with direct object)
-Asking for information, permission, favours, requests (Imperative)
-Talk about the future and make comparisons
-Use Impersonal tenses (‘se’)
-Express opinion, agreement, disagreement (subjunctive in negative sentences)
-Express wishes (Subjunctive)
-Apologise, express happiness & gratitude (subjunctive)
-Use basic conjunctions and prepositions (por tanto, por/para…).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Spanish 3. Students should have studied Spanish for approximately 4 years recently. Please check the website for details and book early as places are limited.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Students will be required to complete homework on a regular basis.
