What is the course about?
The practice of restorative yoga is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. We use several yoga props to support the body in postures and postures are held for several minutes to allow the body to gently relax into the pose. Restorative yoga is a receptive rather than active practice. Some simple breathing practices will be taught to enhance your quality of breathing. You will also learn different mindfulness meditation practices to help bring a calm and focused awareness into your daily life.
What will we cover?
-Sitting and lying down postures, including inversions, forward and back bends all fully supported with yoga props
-Mindfulness meditation techniques
-Relaxation
-Gentle breath work.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Perform restorative yoga postures
- Undertake a suitable breathing practice and a short meditation at home
- Increase your observation skills
- Obtain improved relaxation and peace of mind
- Have increased body awareness.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The postures are gentle and adapted versions are provided. Beginners are welcome. You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.

Yoga equipment including mats will be provided. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Madlyn is an experienced yoga teacher and massage therapist who loves to share the joy and transformative power of yoga with with people of all ages and abilities. Having trained in Hatha and Perinatal Yoga, Madlyn now weaves together strength training, restorative movement, and stretching, in gentle sequences. Madlyn’s classes always include breathing exercises, meditation and deep relaxation. Her compassionate style of teaching encourages students to adapt the practice as needed, and to connect with their breath, move mindfully, and relax deeply. Madlyn teaches for organisations, yoga studios, and gyms, as well as teaching and massaging private clients, and leading yoga retreats. Madlyn is a dedicated mum to 2 kids, a dog and a cat, and is a disability advocate, supporting individuals with complex needs. Courses at City LIt include Mixed Level: Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and online Light weights for everyday strength.
