This course is a continuation of Russian 4: art and culture part 2 (offered in Term 2). The focus this term will be on Russian sculpture.

What will we cover?
In this part of the course the students will learn about the group of Russian painters “The World of Art” and Sergei Dyagilev’s ballet group “The Russian Ballet”, whose concerts were known as “The Russian Seasons”. The students will familiarize themselves with the main direction in Soviet art, called “social realism”, and about different types of modern art, including street-art and installation.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Suitable if you have completed Russian at Level 3, or you are a confident learner at Level 3 or are studying Russian at Level 4 or above.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This course involves listening and reading activities (available on-line), using video and audio files, discussions, there will be some task-based and project-based assignments.
Homework will be set every week, which students should be willing and able to do in order to benefit fully from the course.

Eugeniya is a Russian teacher who lived most of her life in Moscow. She holds a degree in language teaching from Moscow State University as well as a PGCE. She has also trained to be a language teacher at City Lit. Eugeniya has taught Russian at all levels in a wide range of institutions including secondary schools, London universities and various language centres and agencies. She enjoys teaching adults who need Russian for travelling, communicating with friends or who would like to learn about Russian history, politics and literature. Her passions are languages, literature, art, and travelling.
