What is the course about?
This course puts you in touch with one of the most popular Latin American cultures the Brazilian Samba. Samba dancing is a brilliant cardio workout, makes you feel empowered, confident and happy and you will improve your Portuguese speaking along the way!
What will we cover?
Samba technique - variation of steps and routines - Body Rolls - Breaks and Pauses - Cross Leg Turns - Arm Leg Wave - Leg Kick Flicks - Walks - Interaction - Musicality - Creativity.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Improve your Samba steps with correct body placement
Demonstrate stronger technique within combinations
Improve your freestyle dancing, confidence and strength.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The class is suitable for both beginners and improvers. No partner required.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught by a professional dancer with a solid choreographic knowledge and several years of performance and teaching in the UK and overseas. Students will work as a group and sometimes individually. No work is required outside of the class.The teacher will recommend venues should you wish to practice your skills in social settings.
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you
could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Students should come dressed appropriately for dance. A comfortable top/t-shirt and trousers/skirt that allow movement (no jeans). Comfortable shoes with or without heels and must slide easily. For warm up and cool down section is recommended to bring trainers or flat shoes with a solid sole. An extra top is useful and bring bottled water.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Continue with Samba: general level or contact the Dance department for alternative classes.
