What is the course about?
Playing multi-part pieces for saxophone ensemble, rehearsing to a standard we can perform and record.
What will we cover?
We will look at the use of dynamics, articulation and rhythmical playing within an ensemble to achieve an improved group sound. We will play 4 or 5 arrangements from the saxophone repertoire.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
We will play through our arrangements in an informal performance for an invited audience.
We will make recordings you can keep to enjoy.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The minimum requirement for the course is Saxophone level 3, and more advanced players will be very welcome.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The sessions are practical, group sessions. We’ll begin with a warm up and short technical episode. You will be allocated a part and will read your way through the arrangement.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All music materials are supplied. Please bring a notebook and pencil.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
This short course supplements our ongoing saxophone and ensemble studies.
