What is the course about?
This course focusses on screen printing and how it can be used to expand and diversify your own working practice. We will be looking at hands on creative techniques using screen printing that can give your work a new lease of life. The aim of this course is to teach you how to create your own screen printed work which you may choose to go on to sell or display at art markets, online sales, self promotion, exhibitions etc.
What will we cover?
The course will cover the fundamentals of the screen printing process as a whole, creative screen printing techniques, and will allow you to develop your own personal projects. We will also be exploring different formats that can be made with paper and make photo stencils from your artwork to screen print from. We will also be looking at the wider contemporary use of the process as a whole and how this could relate to your work.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Screen print and demonstrate an understanding of the process start to finish
- Screen print creatively
- Prepare any type of artwork for making photo stencils
- Produce your own screen printed work.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
No skills or previous experience with Graphic Arts or Printmaking required. This course provides an in route from screen-print one or two, however it is also open to first timers who want to learn more about screen printing and the graphic arts.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
- Tutor demonstration and setting of tasks
- Looking at samples and examples of contemporary practice
- 1:1 support and guidance
- Group-work and opportunities for independent practice and learning through personal projects.
- There will be voluntary homework tasks set between sessions for you to further develop ideas and research.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Nothing needed for the first day. All basic materials are supplied.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
This course is an excellent springboard into further printmaking or image making courses. The graphic arts presents a broad area for study, you may wish to develop your printmaking, your drawing or photography. Your tutor will be on hand to advice how you may personally progress onto future City Lit courses.
