What is the course about?
This course is designed to give you an understanding into the whole process of screen printing, start to finish, as well as allowing you to make your own creatively developed screen prints.
This course will teach you step by step the elements for understanding the process and producing your own work. You will learn both creative techniques and practical skills. Learn how to set up a variety of work including your own for use in screen-printing, mixing and preparing inks, paper stocks, the safe use of the studio and equipment. You will be shown artists examples and a wider contemporary use of the process and its potential.
What will we cover?
The course will introduce the technical skills needed in creating and making a screen print, including the use of equipment, tools and materials and basic printing methods.
Students will gain an understanding of how to make a screen print from a photo stencil, hand cut paper stencils, a range of creative printing techniques, how to set up artwork in order to make a photo stencil from, basic registration, how to mix inks, troubleshooting, health & safety. The course will also give an understanding into the potential of a creative exploration to the process.

- Use registration techniques for multi-layering images
- Discover potential ways to take your work further
- Achieve skills and confidence in printmaking practice, which may be used as a springboard for a more advanced practice.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a beginners course. No previous experience is necessary.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Demonstrations of techniques will be given when new methods are introduced. One-to-one discussions and
guidance and some voluntary homework tasks.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All materials are included for this course. There is nothing you need to bring for the first day.
