What is the course about?

The course will focus on building existing technical skills, improve co-ordination, increase strength and develop the cognitive skills to combine more movement vocabulary into longer and more complex sequences.

What will we cover?

We will expand on existing knowledge of ballet technique, build strength, stamina and flexibility whilst developing the musicality, artistry and performance required to perform repertoire such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Participants will learn solos from these well-known ballets as well as experiencing what it is like to dance in a corps de ballet.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Recognise a wider range of classical ballet vocabulary.
Demonstrate increased strength, stamina and control of movement.
Perform longer and more complex movement sequences.
Increase understanding of artistry, musicality and how these can enhance performance.
Understand the skills required to dance in a corps de ballet.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Silver Swans ballet class improvers plus is suitable for older leaners 55+ with a minimum of 2 years experience of ballet at improver level.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:

  • Follow spoken instructions
  • Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
  • Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Group work in a well equipped, modern sprung floor studio with music. It is essential to be ready to start on time.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotards or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. Ballet shoes either canvas or leather with elastics. Jock straps are recommended for the men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort. No jewellery to be worn during class.
