What is the course about?

This course will cover a range of ensemble songs from popular Broadway shows, in a variety of styles. Time will be spent learning harmonies, staging, and solos for each piece.
Depending on the group, there may be opportunities for people to sing their own choice of solos at the end of each session. Please bring 3 copies of your song with the pages neatly secured together in a format the accompanist can use easily.

What will we cover?

- Learning ensemble songs from musicals
- How to sing with feeling for the style of the song and understanding of its place in the show
- The techniques required to sing musical theatre repertoire.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Perform a Broadway/West End show tune solo, and/or in a group with confidence and in character
- Sing as part of group in harmony.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

From beginner to advanced, the course is open to anyone interested in singing and performing show songs.
Ideally you will be able to sing in tune and in time. You need to be able to follow instructions in English.
Sheet music will be used so some familiarity with musical notation is desirable but not essential.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each class will start with a physical and vocal warm up and you will learn through singing together and solo, with demonstration and feedback from the tutor. To aid your progress on this course, you may need to do some practice between the sessions.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

- The tutor will supply music for all songs, apart form any solos you may wish to bring to the class
- You may find it useful to have a notebook & pencil, and a folder for your music.
