What is the course about?
This workshop is ideal for singers who have been studying for about 3 years and have a reasonable grasp of vocal technique. It is especially ideal for singers who have completed our ‘Consolidate your singing technique’ course, or who have similar experience. This workshop will introduce you to studying and performing in a workshop format and help you to apply your vocal technique to new repertoire.

- Transitioning between technical work and interpretive work
- Working with a professional accompanist
- Singing in front of the group in a workshop format
- Exploring repertoire that is suitable for your current standard.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- feel confident performing with a professional accompanist
- display an understanding of how a solid vocal technique allows for freedom of expression
- have an enhanced idea of what repertoire best suits your voice.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Singers should have 3 years’ group experience (or two years’ private study) or equivalent and have the ability to learn to repertoire between each session. Singers will need to bring their own music and a copy for the accompanist.

Listening and reading outside class is encouraged and once enrolled further online resources will be available via Moodle.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring a notebook and pencil, at least one classical song to sing and a copy for the accompanist.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
City lit offers a range of singing classes for all levels throughout the academic year. Your tutor will advise you which level is best for you at the end of this course. If you have any further questions please do contact the music office. .
