What is the course about?
This workshop aims to present the most relevant historical and cultural elements of the facinating Celebration “El día de los muertos” in Spanish speaking countries, offering a better understanding of their culture.
What will we cover?
In this lively course, we will discuss how “El día de los muertos” is celebrated in Latin America, particularly in México, which will give an insight into beliefs and customs of these countries. Irs history and cultural roots as well as the most important elements of this tradition will be discussed as well.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- further your knowledge about this tradition in the Spanish speaking world.
- have a deeper understanding of Latin American culture
- have a better understanding of Spanish, according your level
- use a wider vocabulary related to this topic.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students of all levels are welcome, as it will be an informative workshop done in Spanish. You should have an elementary level of the language (at least an A2 level, i.e at least Spanish 2 upper).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This is a short course so it will be a presentation mostly, where students’ participation will be actively encouraged. Those who may know some aspects of this topic already will have the opportunity to share their opinion and knowledge with others. You will be provided with extra material to do some further reading/researching after the class.

Adriana holds a qualification to teach adults. She has taught Spanish to adults and teenagers for more than 8 years at different levels ranging from beginners to proficiency, including GCSE exams, in groups and one-to-one lessons -face to face and online-. She has worked as a Spanish tutor in educational institutions such as City Lit; Bishopsgate Institute; Morley College, UK Government departments as DEFRA, and for agencies tutoring private students for well-known organizations namely BBC, Arthur & Gallagher, AON, AHJ, among others. She got a degree in Anthropology from the Central University of Venezuela. A career in which she developed her knowledge and passion about Languages and Culture. Additionally, back in her country she worked in cultural research in the publishing area, events organization and organizational structure.
