What is the course about?

This intensive course introduces you to the basic aspects of the Spanish language and will enable you to take part in simple conversations.

What will we cover?

Daily routine, telling the time, shopping for food, describing cities and towns, directions, say what you have done recently, life experiences.

Grammar: regular, irregular and reflexives verbs in the present tense, frequency adverbs, direct pronouns, indefinite pronouns, place prepositions, impersonal form, present perfect.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- describe your daily routine
- ask for food at the café/restaurant
- talk about food habits
- describe your town/neighbourhood
- ask and give directions
- speak about past experiences
- describe people's characters.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for learners who already speak a romance language or who would like to learn at a much faster pace. You should have completed Spanish rápidamente: module 1 or have some basic knowledge of Spanish. for advice please contact languages@citylit.ac.uk.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

We also offer languagesupport sessions for beginner studentsgiving them an opportunity to dispel doubts about the language. These are delivered entirely in English and are ideal for those aspects of the language or language learning that beginner students tend to find challenging. Places can only be booked once you have started thecourse. For more information, please ask your tutor.

Roberto Gallego

Roberto was born and grew up in Madrid. He decided to become a language teacher because he is passionate about his language and culture. He has a Post-graduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish from the University of Barcelona and a Certificate in Advanced Methodology moderated by the University of Cambridge. He is also a DELE examiner and a qualified teacher trainer. As well as teaching at City Lit, Roberto teaches at London universities and Spanish schools. He has been teaching adults at all levels for many years, which he finds motivating as they share their knowledge, experiences and points of view. When he is not teaching, he enjoys reading historical novels, gardening and cooking.
