Care work & support

Care Work & Support Courses in London and Online

City Lit care and support courses are aimed at those wanting to help others in areas including, adult social care, mental health, youth work, childcare and information, advice or guidance. We have a range of recognised qualifications, introductions and personal and professional development courses to choose from. We welcome applications from those with lived experience in these areas and we work closely with organisations and charities all over London to provide opportunities for learners to make a difference.

We run courses out in the community, in college and online. Our courses have been chosen to best reflect the needs of the care and support sector and the changing needs of our students. Courses vary from long term (spanning over two terms), or short term and one day courses. We also have evening and weekend courses.

Our specialist care and support tutors have first hand knowledge as professionals in their field, making lessons relevant and engaging. We have a thriving and diverse team, who are committed to ongoing learning and development. Our tutors are very supportive of our diverse range of learners.

Our learners have gone on to volunteer and work in organisations such as St Mungoes, NHS, Groundswell and Change Grow Live. We are also proud to see many of our learners continue with education to level 3 and beyond.

  1. Level 2 Understanding working with people with mental health issues
    Course start date:  Mon 10 Jan 2022

    Do you currently work in the mental health field, or are you interested in getting into this area? This course will increase your understanding of mental wellbeing and mental ill health. You will investigate the common signs and symptoms of mental health issues as well as exploring the range of agencies involved in the sector. You will identify best practice in planning care that supports people holistically. The course is particularly useful if you are studying or hoping to work in support work, care work or mental health. Applications are encouraged from learners who have used support services or have experienced homelessness. On successful completion you will achieve the level 2 understanding working with people with mental health needs certificate.   3. Level 2 certificate in health and social care
    Course start date:  Thu 13 Jan 2022

    Location on this date:  Mixed Mode (Online and Onsite)

    Health care is the treatment of health and medical conditions in hospitals, health centres and in the community and social care is the care and support of vulnerable people. The level 2 certificate in health and social care will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of the core areas in health and social care. This is ideal for those who are interested in health and social care and wish to gain a formal qualification. This qualification may support your progression into a range of jobs in the health and social care sector, including: care support workers in residential care settings, health care assistants in community or health environments, care support workers in supported living or day services or community based support workers.



    There will be four face to face sessions at the College, where you will be able to meet other students and to get support with your coursework.

  4. Level 2 award youth work
    Course start date:  Fri 21 Jan 2022

    Location on this date:  KS - Keeley Street

    Level 2 award in youth work provides learners with the knowledge and skills they need to progress into a career in youth work practice. This qualification is designed for people who are wanting to work in a youth work environment (public, voluntary or private sector, paid or unpaid) or are already in an assisting or supportive role and who are supervised. You will need to be working in some type of children and youth work setting, school settings would be sufficient. If you aren't in a role already, you will need find one before you are accepted on the course. We will be holding an online open evening where you will be able to talk to the youth work qualification team and meet other candidates for the course.
